Brand New Day Asia supports the development of the world at large in our own little way with our long-term sponsorship of the Know One Teach One, or KOTO, program.
Brand New Day Managing Director Patrick and the company each sponsor a disadvantaged youth in Vietnam for culinary and hospitality vocational training through the KOTO programme. KOTO is a Vietnamese-Australian foundation founded in 2009 with the aim to provide Vietnam’s street and disadvantaged youth an opportunity to acquire the skills to get them off the streets and help them care for themselves.
KOTO recruits up to 30 youth ages 16-22 from difficult life circumstances such as poverty, abandonment, orphans, abuse, exploitative employment, neglect, conflict with the law, parents with addictions, parents with mental health problems and more.
The sponsored youths then undergo a 24-month training programme at KOTO training centres in Vietnam. The training programme also includes 15 hours of compulsory community service. These include visiting orphanages, feeding and caring for the elderly, getting involved in environmental protection projects – all to encourage trainees to give back to the community in their own ways. In doing so, the programme encourages confidence in youths so that they contribute to a better future for themselves and the community.
KOTO has a proven success rate in placing sponsored trainees in their first jobs in the hospitality industry upon completing their vocational training. Currently, KOTO is working on expanding its programme and networks to bring education and support to street and disadvantaged youths worldwide.
Kudos to KOTO!
